This blog is about my observations and thoughts related to software development. These observations include tips and tricks that I have learned, solutions to problems I have faced, and other concepts I have found interesting and useful. This blog is intended to provide information to help other developers facing the same issues as well as providing me a method to document things in a well-known location for my future reference.

Bluetooth Headphone For Laptop, Cell Phone And Other Devices November 20, 2009

As a relatively new, though proven technology, learning what there is to know about Bluetooth headphones is a useful exercise. Once you understand that this is a technology that can free a person from the tethers that bind a person to a sound output source, you won’t want to go without one. Additionally, they are far less bulky and lighter in weight than headphones of yesteryear.

Bluetooth as a technology is a means by which devices that are equipped with it can wirelessly communicate across large distances from each other. They can transfer data of most any type including music and cell phone conversations through an assigned radio frequency band. At present, they operate in the 2. 4 GHz range.

Bluetooth came about as a result of the need to create a single digital wireless set of standards or protocols that would be able to contact multiple digital devices without being impacted by synchronization problems that have prevented such synchronization of those same devices in the past. When devices equipped with Bluetooth come within radio range of each other, they’re able to “talk” to each other.

Bluetooth headphones, like every other Bluetooth-equipped device that works along the same principles, can achieve a data transfer rate of about 720 Kbps per second within 10 to 100 meters of each other. As the technology has become more common, prices for such Bluetooth devices — especially for those of  Bluetooth headphones — has come down greatly.

Once a Bluetooth-equipped output source hooks up with the Bluetooth headphone unit — and it’ll be seamless and almost unnoticeable — there will be a listening experience that can range from generally good all the way up to excellent. Additionally, headphones of this type are normally superior in size and weight over other types of wireless headset devices. As to prices, expect to pay between 30 and 100 dollars for a decent setup.

It’s a good idea to sign onto the Internet and do a bit of searching around about Bluetooth headphones. This will let you get a sense of just which maker and size and type of Bluetooth unit will meet the most sense for the budget and for the sound quality that’s desired. What’s for certain is that there are a ton of such headphones out there.

Keep in mind that Bluetooth-equipped devices such as what you might see with headphones will deliver quality that’s commensurate with the prices that are paid. Really cheap Bluetooth devices may not give you what you’re looking for in terms of sound or durability. Therefore, it could be worth the extra money that’s paid in order to get good quality and few problems.
